GUIDE TO INSTALLATION

FOR TYPES, ACCESS-BOSS AND ACCESS-MEISTER

Once the opening in the ceiling has been made, installation is a breeze.

Fit eyebolt to panel.  Push the fully assembled unit into the opening with the architrave hard against the plaster. The unit is now in the right position and should not fall back out.*  Fitted fixing clips will take care of that.  Now open the panel, (at this time keep one hand against the architrave), unfold the ladder and screw four screws into predrilled holes on each long side through the frame to the timber in the ceiling.  Do not walk on the ladder at this time.

*Cut out not to be wider as shown (570mm)

Now all you have to do is adjust the ladder, (two screws with lock nuts), finished.  Now you can walk on the ladder.

No assembly, no cutting, no mistakes.

INSTALLATION & TECHNICAL

To get started, find the right location.  Easy access top and bottom is essential.  To mark out the opening in the ceiling, you can either hammer nails through the plaster or measure from the top plates of the walls, which are usually visible.  Use the same type of timber that is up there, or 100 x 50mm pine or hardwood.  Pick straight pieces.  About 4m will be enough, about 2 doz. 75mm long nails and 8 of 12 gauge x 45mm t17 hex screws to fix ladder frame to the new opening (eight hex screws are supplied with the ladder).

It is best to do the timber work first, from above.  Double check the size and measure diagonally for square, if correct cut out the plaster.  Do not stand on the plaster ceiling or on timber that you had to cut before it is secured.  A short plank is handy.  You are now ready to install the unit as explained above.  Get someone to help you for two minutes to push the unit into the ceiling, or remove the ladder assembly only from the panel, (4 or 6 nuts) to lighten the load.  Place the ladder assembly into the ceiling space.  Pull the frame into the ceiling from above with a rope.  Make sure it opens at the right end.  Fix the frame to the new opening.  Fit the ladder assembly back on the panel, and do not over tighten the nuts.  Still from above - Tie the rope to the bottom step, open the hatch, lower, then adjust the ladder, finished.  You may have to loosen or tighten the 8 fixing screws on one side or the other to adjust the gap evenly on both sides between the architrave and the panel.

LOAD RATING
Working Load rating is 150kg.  Tested by Metlabs in Melbourne.

Trusses at 900 mm centres, measure the distance between (around 865mm) and nail 2 trimmers to the Trusses 1220 or 1520 mm apart.

Another piece 1220 or 1520 mm long, 570mm apart for the width.
